New classes are forming!

I have new classes forming. Beginner's classes will begin on October 24 and Advanced classes will begin October 31st. Classes for Beginner's will be 1 hour, 30 minutes from 7:00 to 8:30. Advanced classes will be 2 hours from 7:00 to 9:00. I will be posting projects and fees very soon. Keep checking back!

We had such a great time and the 5 Heart Cross was certainly one that will become a class project here at Donna's Art Part. I can't wait for you to see it in person.

Our Beginner's class will be held Monday, August 14 @ 7:00 p.m. The Advanced class will have to have some adjustment again due to more shots in my back on the 22nd. I would like to meet Friday evening, August 19th @ 6:30 p.m. to keep us on target. Check your schedules and let me know if that is feasible for at least 3 of you, please! As always, can't wait to paint!

Things are happening, like it or not!

So many of you know that since the death of my husband and my mother, I have found great peace in creating what I call my Faith Doodles. I am beginning to make progress to having another element to Donna's Art Part. My art is being offered for sale at Goodin's Jewelry in Amarillo. I hope all of you will take an opportunity to view the art, purchase a print, and enjoy an visit at Goodin's to view their beautiful jewelry. They have been so gracious to showcase my work and work with me.

Now, the advanced class had tentatively rescheduled our class for July 22, 2011. I will be having another injection in my back that day and it requires taking it easy for 24 hours. I am thinking that we may be able to have our class on July 21st @ our usual time. Check your schedules and we'll find a time to continue our ark. I'm beginning to understand why the ark took Noah such a long time. I just wish we were experiencing some of the rain.

Re-arranging Schedule for Beginner's Class

We have some members with great summer plans. If we can, it would save us having to cancel a class or further postpone, if we could reschedule our class for June 24th @ 7:00 p.m. Please let me know if this would work for everyone.

The birthday plate is really winning my heart and will truly be an heirloom piece to serve up cake for many birthdays to come for family and friends. (Oh, I hope that doesn't mean I have to cook more birthday cakes.) If you are needing to get the background colors taken care of, please give me a call so we can make those arrangements. Hope you all can make it!

Spring Break and its Impact on your Classes

Yes, I'm taking a break and having company. And, wow, we've got some beautiful weather to go with the time off.

If you are in the Beginner's class, we will resume classes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 21.

If you are in the Advanced class, we will resume classes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28.

We are quickly making our way through 2011, doesn't it seem? Of course, I'm looking at the SDP Convention that will be taking place in May as a special event!!!!!!

Hope you are doing something special with any time off you might have to take advantage of the beautiful weather.

Advanced Class #1

So delighted to get the projects chosen and finally posted for you all to see. I have the wood for the Advanced Class Good Night to All project, but will need to order for the remainder of the projects. I will need your class deposits as soon as possible in order to know how many of you are joining me and want to paint on the surfaces that you are viewing or want to find your own surface.

Beginner's Class #2


Advanced Class #2

The fee for the Beginner's Class will be $85.00 with a deposit of $40 due upon sign-up. A supply list will be available for new students.

The fee for the Advanced class will be $102 with a deposit of $50 due at sign-up. The Noah's Ark piece is dimensional tin and will require a great deal of painting time in the studio, but what a treasure.

Beginner's Class #1

The snowmen pics and bucket will be separate projects for the Beginner's. We will begin with the snowmen and then the bucket.

I'm working 3 days a week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but am available Friday through Monday to get you signed up or somewhat later in the evening on my workdays.

Please call ahead so we don't play tag too much. As always, can't wait to paint!

Holiday BLURRRRR

I believe that the holiday BLURRRRRR is officially in process.

We did meet for our class on November 29th with only 2 of our regular members. Our shading is complete on our angel and the face, hair, and halo are in process. We have only the adding of the extras and the wording to complete our mixed media angel.

Due to a church obligation, I am asking that you check your calendar to see if you can make class on Thursday, December 16. Please let me know if you can make that as a class time. I'm afraid if we don't manage that night that everyone's holiday obligations will override another class meeting before the first of the year. We are such busy people!

Call and leave me a message on the cell phone if you will be able to attend or not. Thanks so much and blessings to you all at this holiday season.

Thanks and Getting a Paintbrush in Hand

I want to thank you all for your prayers, calls, and concerns during my Mother's recent illness and death. It means so much that I have such great friends. Painting brings about good relationships.

The tentative plans are to resume Monday night classes for the Beginner's class only. You will complete your mixed media project and then I will have another series available in February. The Advanced class will postpone beginning the Christmas project. I will touch base with each of you to see if you want to include it in the next series or if you would prefer to have it at a later date as a separate class, possibly a Saturday class. The next Advanced Series will also begin in February.

December is always a very busy time. Let us take this time to enjoy our family and friends as well as the reason for the season. I am looking forward to selecting new projects. If any of you have projects that you would like to see on the schedule, please share those ideas with me. In the meantime, just know, I can't wait to paint!

Upcoming Classes

* REMINDER *

Our Monday class (September 20) has been moved to Tuesday (September 21) this week to accommodate some that have conflicts. It is the Advanced class and should be our last class on the 3 Ompir bikers.

Next Monday will be the second class on our Mixed Media Angel for the Beginner's class. You should have your pieced background complete and the angel pattern centered on your canvas. Please remember to bring repositionable tape or blue painter's tape as well as the paper chosen for your angel's dress. Your traditional painting supplies will be required as well as Mod Podge.

Well, our classes are back! The Beginner's Class started last Monday and finished up the Daisies on the clipboard. It seems that their skills were not too badly stunted by the long break from my shoulder surgery. Now, the Advanced Class begins again tonight at 6:30 p.m. on our Biker's design. Oh, my! We have more to finish than I remembered. Not a problem! We shall 'git 'r dun' and enjoy every minute of it. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

It is going to take me awhile to get the blog looking like I want again. Blogger has done lots of updates apparently and not all of them have allowed my blog appearance to remain. Keep watching! I'll be working on it as well as the blog for the Golden Spread Chapter of Decorative Painters. What a job, but what fun, too!

For those of you that haven't made it to a Friday Night Finish Night, here is what can happen to you and your works of art!

We recently painted with Rosemary West through our local chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters. Most of us still had some 'finishing' yet to do. Sandy added to her lamp base and Friday night worked very hard to reach this "stage" of her painting. In order to carry everything to the car, Sandy packed her stuff. Sometimes when we leave, we have paint all over us but Sandy did it a little differently! It is attractive, don't you think?

Monday, March 29--Beginner's Class, Project #2

We are ready to begin our 2nd project. I'm afraid I've gotten carried away with painting this project but I couldn't resist. I've re-worked the original directions while maintaining the pattern. I'm a several steps ahead of where I plan to be at the end of class 1 on project 2. Please print your own pictures to bring with you. I have taken pretty good pics with my cell phone. Monday Snow = No Monday Night Class

Do not hang your hat on Peggy Dunlap's 8:00 p.m. weather forecast. We visited and she said we were supposed to get rain but no snow through Thursday. Well, so much for that prediction. By 10:30 p.m. when I went to bed the snow was falling and travel this morning is very treacherous. Be looking for an impromptu class. Check your e-mail and blog regularly so that we can get our first class in. I do know it will not happen this week because we have plans to attend the Maureen McNaughton Class in Wichita, Ks. We have our fingers crossed that the weather will not cancel our plans.

In the meantime, take time tonight to paint on something or we are all going to forget how. I am so sorry that we keep getting hit with surprises from Mother Nature. I do have snow boots now though and am getting to use them. Humph?

Well, ladies, I'm beginning to think that we won't be painting again tomorrow night. Our chapter of Decorative Painters has rescheduled our class with Rosemary West for the coming weekend already. If it snows tomorrow as is predicted, we will again reschedule our class. My basecoat will certainly be cured well before we take our first decorative strokes!

Please continue to check back on the blog often so we can adjust as needed. I'd have been on the phone for hours getting in touch with everyone before our cell phone and e-mail days. Technology equals convenience. We will be painting soon though, right? The Advanced Painter's class if it snows tonight or tomorrow will be February 22, Beginner's Class will be painting, February 15.

Okay, let's hope we have the big storms out of the way now. It was a beautiful snow and most of us were lucky to maintain our electricity. I will be seeing the beginner students Monday night at 7:00 and the advanced painters will begin their project on Monday, February 8, at 6:30. The beginner's class will be prepping here as some have not had any experience with the process. It will be good to get started. If you plan to join us and have not had an opportunity to get by, let me know and we'll try to take care of your needs. Can't wait to paint!

Well, I'm pretty sure that we already have too much snow for the roads to be clear and really safe to drive on after the sun goes down. The Friday night Advanced Class will be moved to February 8th at 6:30. The Beginner's Class should be okay for February 1st at 6:30 p.m.

I am having my carpeting replaced tomorrow. The advanced class will meet Friday, January 29th at 6:30 until 9:00. Sandy and Denise need to pick up their supplies for class #1, Bauernmaleri clock Tuesday or Wednesday. We have a full class of 8! I'm so excited to have a wonderful large group.

Our Beginner's Class will be smaller, with 5 or 6. I'd love it if you could pick up your supplies, pattern etc. on Saturday or Sunday. You will have no prep work as we start to finish our first class together and you get to listen to me talk alot on the first night. We'll get acquainted and you will have a chance to ask questions. It will begin Monday, February 1st at 7:00-9:00.

I am aiming to have 1 night a month, yet to be determined, to paint a Christmas ornament. I also have "Friday Night Finish Night". It is a free night, unless I have to furnish a palette of paint. A palette is $4.00. You can bring any unfinished project to work on that night. I will help if you need it but won't be instructing as I will be finishing something of my own. As always, can't wait to paint!!!!!!!

Heart Shaped Pendulum Clock

Ladies, I have the clocks, picture and first page of instructions ready for pick up. Class will begin on January 29 at 6:30 p.m. so you'll have a chance to avoid the majority of the destruction before the carpet, etc. happen on Monday if all goes as planned. The operative wording is "as planned." I know you are going to love the clock. I don't think many of you have painted in the Bavarian Style known as Bauernmaleri. I can't wait to share it with you. Call to arrange to pick up pattern and wood at your earliest convenience. I'm off Thursday through Monday or home after 6:00.

We've been lucky in 2010 and most of my supplies have already arrived. I work Tues., Wed., and Thurs. of each week so it is easiest to catch me for supplies Friday through Mondays on the cell phone, 676-0909, to arrange a time to meet at the home studio.

Beginners have 3 upcoming classes, the Birds on a lid (pictured in an earlier post) and the mixed media Angel canvas that I am holding are 2 of their classes. Advanced painters have 3 and possibly 4 in the Spring Series. The Bless this House is a portion of the Sampler that will be taught in the Advanced classes along with the 2 Bavarian Clocks that are pictured in an earlier post.

As always, can't wait to paint!!!!!!!!!! It has truly been a long break from painting and it has always been good therapy for me!

Classes for 2010

CAN'T WAIT TO PAINT!

The time has really come to pull out the paints and the brushes. The projects that had been picked for earlier classes are still in the plan. The Advanced classes will begin on the last Monday evening in January while the Beginner's classes with begin the first Monday of February. Please periodically check back as I will be adding information.

I received an e-mail today that the brushes have shipped from California. I might have them as early as Monday. I'll be posting and mailing a supply lists in the very near future.

Oh, my goodness! It has been since May 31st since I've posted on this blog. Well, a lot has happened since then. Shoulder surgery was June 19th and the rehab progress is going well. I've even taken a 3 day class just a week ago.

I have my projects picked out for the Beginner's and Advanced Classes. I haven't judged just how many classes it will take to finish each project so I can't tell you the cost yet. I can tell you that my Beginner's Class will begin September 28th at 6:30 to 8;30 while the Advanced Class will begin on October 5 at 6:30 to 9:00. I hope the pictures tempt you a little bit.

The Monday night beginner's class will be taking on a decoupaged background and "just a rooster" (inside joke). Please have your decoupage background complete and your pattern in place. We will develop our linear palette together so that we can see how color and value are developing in each of us. As always, can't wait to paint! See you at 7:00 p.m. at the home studio.

This Monday, May 18, will hopefully be the last Monday evening class for the Intermediate class until sometime in June. We will be finishing up our final in a series of TV tables. I can't wait to get them finished and put together.

On Monday, May 25, the beginner's class will be taking a break for Memorial Day. Then on June 1, 2009, we will begin our Recycle, Restore, and Reuse project. I have sent page one of your instructions to give you the information to prep your project. I will also send you the pattern through your e-mail. Your project picture is with this post. Remember to click on the photo and you will have a nice picture to help you while we paint.

Changes in class sequence

Monday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m., the beginner's class will begin the Hoppy Easter sign. Everyone has picked up their boards and patterns.

We will also begin the Hoppy Easter sign in the intermediate's class but on Monday, March 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. Peggy F. will be joining us for that class. Everyone has their board except Peggy F. Patterns are ready to be picked up whenever possible.

By doing the Hoppy Easter sign now, everyone will have it finished by Easter to enjoy. If you have special brushes that you use for drybrushing, please bring them with you.

Las Vegas Convention

I have ordered a box slightly different than the rounded box for our strokework piece. The size is the same. I have also ordered our Marx liners. I am afraid that they might be delayed some because there is a decorative painting conference taking place as I type. Take time to look at all the classes being offered. It may be something you want to attend in the future. You might also think about Tole Country in Oklahoma City in September. It is not very far. We might even be able to go up and back over the weekend and take in the exhibits!

Updating My Students

I'm so excited about the classes. Our Monday night beginner's have completed the structuring of the faux tiles on the Contemporary Cherries. Next Monday, March 2, we will finish that project. We will postpone our strokework piece until the wood has arrived. I do have the wood for our Hoppy Easter project, so that is what we will begin to tackle on the 16th of March. You may pick up the wood on the 2nd. The cost of the wood is $8.00. Very reasonable!

Our Monday night intermediate class has begun the angel calendar insert. I did hear some groaning about an imperfect angel. We hope to keep our 'chins up' and complete the insert on Tuesday, the 10th of March.

Three painters in the intermediate class and myself will be making a trek to Oklahoma City to paint with Turtle Hollow Artists. Maureen McNaughton will be our esteemed teacher and we will receive instruction to paint 3 wonderful strokework projects We will be gone March 5 through 8, thus the postponing of the Monday night class to Tuesday night. We just might be happily pooped.

The above picture pattern is of our February 23 class. It will be a calendar insert. Lynne Andrews is the designer. I love her use of washes.

February 16, March 2, March 16, March 30, April 13, April 27, May 11 are the Beginner's class dates.

Supplies are in!

I have received Jeanette's TV tray, texture paste, and some paints including Indian Red Oxide and Red Earth for those that will be painting with Rosemary West on the 14-15 of February.

On February 16th our beginners' class will begin with our Contemporary Cherries. I have the metal container and lids here. If you have not yet picked one up, that is no problem as we will start to finish it in class. I'll be giving as much information as I can about preparation, etc. As always, can't wait to paint!

Class Cancelled

I've received the order of supplies that I was expecting. The Sta-Wet Palettes and disposable palettes are here as are the disposable palettes. The small pewter containers with lids for the contemporary cherries was also included. Just letting you know. You can call to come by or pick them up at class on Monday night.

January 19 and 26
Our brushes are getting busy for the upcoming classes! We have two more classes to complete our Feathered Friend, the Blue Jay. We completed the fence and they all looked great. We have our palettes ready to work on the berries and bird tomorrow evening. One more class should have our piece completed and ready for framing.

Supplies have been ordered. Some paints and brushes arrived on Friday. The other supplies should arrived sometime in the next week. I did say 'should', didn't I?

I want to thank all of you for recommending my classes to others. I have had a call and hopefully we will have a new painter in our beginner's class in February. I am adding a new section to the blog called Tips. I will put suggestions from some of the painting magazines that I subscribe to as well as those I've picked up over the years from other painters or teachers.

Really, thanks to all of you that voted! Mondays will be the day of the week I look forward to the most because I will get to see you!

Monday night beginners will begin February 16th and meet every other week.

Monday night intermediates will begin February 23rd and meet every other week.

Please check the blog frequently. I will post all changes, etc. on the blog. We hope Mondays always have blue skies, no snow or other bad weather events that might postpone our class. I will likely cancel rather than make worriers out of yourself or your family. Look forward to seeing you in 2009.

It raced up on me. Monday is the first meeting of our class. I have the boards, patterns, and palette ready for pick up. Classes in the making

It has been so nice to be in my studio with fresh puddles of paint and the whir of brushes. I have all of the projects tentatively planned for our Spring Semester. I'm throwing around two ideas. Both would help me out so I'm not going to have a bias at all.

Idea #1 would have all classes meet on Monday nights. The Beginner's class would meet 1st and 3rd Mondays. The Intermediate's class would meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. That might help those that have Wednesday night church commitments have an opportunity to paint again.

Idea #2 would have Intermediate night classes meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. The Beginner's classes would meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays.

Beginner's classes will have 4 projects: 1) Contemporary cherries, 2) Old World stroke work, 3) Hoppy Easter sign, and 4) Feathered Friend-Rooster

Intermediate's classes will have 3 projects: 1) April, May, June Calendar Insert, 2) TV tray, Farm Couple and Lamb, 3) Hoppy Easter Sign.

If you'd like to come by to see the projects, please call. I am no longer sending our a brochure simply to save those pieces of paper and stamps. If you have friends that might like to paint, please send them to this blogspot or have them call me.
The class fee for the Beginner's class will be $90, for Intermediate's class $90 as well. Please pay half or your class fee as soon as you have the opportunity. Classes will begin February 16th. As always, can't wait to paint! dp

It will be 2009 in no time. Our first classes in January will be on Monday nights. It is a class that beginner's as well as intermediate painters will enjoy. Our classes will begin at 6:30 and proceed until 9:00 p.m. for 3 evenings. The nights will be January 12, 19, 26th. February will not have classes as I regroup for a series of Spring Classes. After Thanksgiving Sale

All right! It is time for a sale. We are going to re-arrange the studio this weekend. On Monday, I will have some things ready for a sale. All paints will be 25% off, brushes on hand will be 40% off. There will also be some wood between 10-40% off. Please take advantage of this sale and hopefully give us some needed room, at least for a little while, in the studio. I value your faithfulness and your friendship at Donna's Art Part.

Monday, the 17th
Your preparation is to paint your 8"x16" canvas with gray gesso. If you are able to achieve some texture, it is desirable. (I had no luck with that.) Then you will use French Blue, adding a little dark blue and black to create a nice dark blue. Base canvas with this after the gesso is dry. Then apply your pattern using white or yellow graphite. We will prepare our palettes and begin the petticoat of paint on our snowmen. See you at 7:00.

Wednesday, the 19th
Your preparation is to apply texture paste in sweeping strokes. We are not looking for a heavy texture, just enough to give us a surface to grab for drybrushing. You may follow the instructions to create a background with Blackberry or you may begin with a black or Charcoal background so that it like the other TV trays, if you are doing the set of trays. Apply the border if you have a chance but it can be done at any time. If you want to do your background drybrushing in class, do not apply your pattern until that is complete. These little snowmen and gingerbread men are so cute! I'm in love with them! See you at 6:30.

Class Monday and Wednesday, 10th & 13, postponed

Well, I'm pleading "Uncle". I just can't do it all and I've decided that the only stress reducer that I have control over is the classes this week. I hope it will give me an extra piece of time to play catch up. Apologies! See you next week at the usual dates and times.

November 10th class

If you have not made it by for your canvas, you will need to pick you one up at Hobby Lobby. I darkened my basecoat a bit with Galaxy Blue, like a Midnight Blue. In reading back over the instructions, Heidi darkened hers. If you have it already painted, I see no problem. We could always roll a bit on the canvas when you get here. I will see you at 7:00. As always, can't wait to paint!

November 3rd Class

We will be finishing our Snowmen ornaments this evening. And I have good news--I bought 8 x 16 canvases for everyone. They will be $6.00 + tax. I also forgot to collect $6.00 from each of you for the 3 ornaments. I'll have directions for the Snowmen 5 + pattern. Hopefully, we can get the palette made so that we can take off slinging the brush the next week. I've sent another picture of the snowmen. Remember you can click on the pic and print your own picture to use in class. Can't wait to paint!

October 27th class

I have our hand-turned ornaments and they will be so cute when painted. You will need your sealer and white paint. You will be transferring your pattern here also so be sure you have your gray graphite and stylus. Repositionable tape would be good also but regular tape will be fine also. Can't wait to paint! Monday October 20th-cancelled

Ladies, I'm canceling or postponing our class. We will meet next Monday. I had great family friends in for the weekend as well as a painting seminar for 2 full days. The company was wonderful and the painting was beautiful. I regret having to cancel but a breather is in order. See you on the 27th at 7:00. I will e-mail everyone to come pick up your ornaments as well. Sherman called to deliver but I was out with friends or painting! I should get them today or tomorrow so be looking for the e-mail. Can't wait to paint but will this Monday anyway. Thanks! dp

Monday October 20th

Monday night we will have a special wood piece for you to paint. Sherman, Tammy's husband, is a wood turner. Wood turning is quite an art form in itself and it will be a special piece, hand turned and hand painted. You will be learning how eye shape, nose placement influence the expression of the face. Class will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. Can't wait to paint!

Monday October 13th

I hope this will give those of you that work a little breather. At our last painting class, we discussed beginning class at 7:00 rather than 6:30. I think that will allow most of you the time you need to leave work, grab a bite, grab your project and supplies with a little less frantic pace. Our next class will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 9:00. Looking forward to finishing these Halloween containers! The backgrounds are spectacular. Can't wait to paint!

Monday October 13th

Our class on the 13th will be painting the cats, moons, and borders. If you have missed the previous class, please make time to come get the pattern and instructions. I'll give you some options when you pick it up.

Our project so far looks like a wall of fire. It has been a fun project with an interesting way of creating great depth of color. I can't wait to see our finished project. It is one of those projects that no two will look alike which is perfect.
I look forward to seeing each of you.

I hope our turned snowman ornaments will be ready to pick up on the 13th.

Monday October 6th

Class will continue to work on the Halloween containers. Linda and Jodi will be a step ahead and may decide to work on two containers. You will need your container plus a large basecoating brush, Clear Glaze Medium, Retarding Medium, All Purpose Sealer, and tissue paper. Bring your dark graphite paper as well in case we get that far. It is a sticky night but a lot of fun for the effect. Be sure to arrive at 6:30 p.m. Can't wait to paint!

Wednesday Night Painters

Wednesday night painters will not have class until October 8th. You do have homework though. Please complete your dark value application to the plum. Look at your dark values in relation to one another. V areas should be darkest. Refer to your photograph often. Remember to set your painting aside for awhile. Then return to look at those dark values again from 6' away. Repair as needed. See you October 8 at 6:30 p.m. Can't wait to paint! dp

Monday 29th

To create our 'Halloween Treats Container' you can use an old oatmeal container or Hobby Lobby has a tall square or round paper mache' container. The containers at Hobby Lobby are inexpensive, less than $5.00. Tissue paper will be applied to the outside of both the container and the lid. Then the container will be based with Indian Yellow and the lid with Norwegian Orange. Further instructions will be given in class. If you have a question, please post a comment and I will address it as best as I can. Can't wait to paint!

Monday 22nd additional supplies

As is usual with our first Monday class, we will begin our project here at the studio. My address is 4211 Erik and your class time is 6:30 p.m. Bring the usual supplies but be sure to add plastic wrap and your sea sponge. Come a little early if you have any supplies to purchase and we can get those out of the way! As always, can't wait to paint!

Wednesday Night Painters

Our first project is scheduled for 9-24-08. It will be a value study. The design could easily be adapted to almost any surface. The instructions have it painted on a 7 1/2" x 7" x 16" box with a lid. It needs to be painted with 2 coats of gesso and sanded lightly between coats. The palette is Titanium White and Payne's Grey. I really have missed you. Can't wait to paint!

Monday Night Painters

For your class on 9-22-08 you will need an oval surface. The example is an oval bentwood box, 9 1/2"l, 7"w, & 4"h. You will probably be able to find a comparable paper mache' box at one of the craft stores in town. If not available, try an 8" or so round. The pattern should be easy to adapt. The basecoat color will be Antique Gold (DecoArt) or Yellow Oxide in JoSonja acrylics.

For your class on 9-29-08, begin looking for or emptying out an oatmeal canister. You can make oatmeal cookies for the class!
